Freeway Operations SIMulation

Announcement

Dear FOSIM User,

I would like to announce some recent developments.

Enigmatry has taken over the support and maintenance of FOSIM. Enigmatry is a software company specialised in developing and maintenance of customized software applications. A project team of 3 persons has been set up for software changes and support. More information at www.fosim.nl or www.enigmatry.com.

The implementation of narrow lanes and 80 km/h-zones in the new FOSIM version 6.0 is planned for the summer of 2011. This will contain model development, calibration and validation. Narrow lanes are nowadays very common on Dutch freeways at temporary situations (road works) and at rush hour lanes.

The adding of flyovers is started but the completion date is not yet known.

Yours sincerely,

Henk Heikoop

What is Fosim?

To a large extent traffic operations determine the quality of road infrastructure. Consequently, a thorough understanding of the expected traffic operations is required for traffic engineering problems, for instance, in case of the reconstruction of roads. However, it is often difficult to acquire such understanding because of the complex relationship between infrastructure and driver behaviour.
Fosim is a simulation model that can help with the analysis of traffic operations on Dutch motorways.
